Gem Diner owner to open second restaurant in Syracuse’s lakefront area

Syracuse, N.Y. — The man who brought the iconic Gem Diner back to life plans to open a new restaurant in a former industrial building in Syracuse’s lakefront area.

Doug LaLone said he expects to open The Preserve at 405 in July at the former D.R. Casey Construction Co. building at 405 Spencer St.

The building’s owner, Len Montreal, has already begun redeveloping the building, which is at the southwest corner of Spencer and Maltbie streets, directly across the street from Onondaga Creek. JWM, a seller of office furniture, will also lease space in the building.
