“Syracuse, N.Y. — The remains of an 1800s brine pump house, one of the few surviving artifacts from Syracuse’s once-thriving salt industry, have been unearthed.
Crews from Montreal Construction Co. uncovered two walls of the stone pump house recently when they dug into a small hill near the corner of Spencer and Maltbie streets as part of a redevelopment of the site.
Both walls contain doorways that can be seen in a circa-1890 photo of the pump house, which was demolished sometime between 1908 and 1924. ”
